Overview
This guide explains how to prepare for your hair transplant procedure to reduce bleeding risk, improve graft survival, and ensure a smoother experience on the day of treatment.
Medications and substances to avoid
For one week before your procedure, avoid the following:
- Alcohol
- Aspirin
- Ibuprofen
- Garlic supplements
- Spicy foods
- Minoxidil (Regaine)
- Energy drinks (such as Red Bull)
- High-dose vitamins
- Herbal supplements
These substances may increase your risk of bleeding. Paracetamol may be used instead if pain relief is needed.
Medical disclosure
Please inform us about:
- All medications you are currently taking
- Any serious illnesses
- Allergies
- Recreational drug use
Some substances may interact with local anesthesia.
Smoking instructions
If you smoke, continue smoking as normal before the procedure. Do not attempt to suddenly stop or significantly reduce smoking just before surgery.
You may smoke prior to the procedure to avoid cravings during treatment.
Clothing on the day of procedure
- Wear comfortable clothing.
- Choose clothes that do not need to be pulled over your head.
- Button-up or zip-up tops are recommended.
- Avoid sweaters or tight-neck shirts.
Headwear after the procedure
- No headwear is allowed for 10-14 days after your hairtransplant procedure.
Hair washing before treatment
- Wash your hair either on the day of the procedure or the day before.
- Do not apply styling products afterward.
Eating before surgery
Please eat breakfast or an early lunch before your appointment.
Hair transplant procedures use local anesthesia only, so fasting is not required.
